Cricket’s Changing Tide: Farewell to Legends and the Dawn of New Heroes!

The Indian men’s cricket team is currently playing matches in the West Indies, facing off against the host team in various formats like Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. This tour has brought attention to the younger players, as they are getting a chance to prove themselves. At the same time, it’s also marking the end of an era for some veteran players who may not get another shot to play for India at the highest level.

Cricket’s Changing Tide: Farewell to Legends and the Dawn of New Heroes!

Shikhar Dhawan, a well-known opening batter, has scored an impressive 6793 runs in 167 ODIs for India. He played crucial roles in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups and was even awarded the Player of the Series title in the 2013 Champions Trophy. However, Dhawan’s recent exclusion from the team suggests that his time in the limelight might be fading. His last ODI match was on December 10, 2022, and his absence from the squad for the Asian Games further hinted that he might be thinking about retiring.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a key bowler for India, has played 21 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 87 T20Is since his debut in 2012. He’s known for his performances in T20Is, but he hasn’t been seen in action since November 22, 2022. Recent changes in his social media profile have led to speculation that he might also be considering his future in cricket.

Ishant Sharma, one of India’s top pacers, has played in more than 100 Tests, joining the likes of Kapil Dev. However, he hasn’t been part of any match for India since November 29, 2021. With the emergence of new fast bowlers, it’s becoming less likely that Ishant will get another chance. His last ODI match was in January 2016, and his last T20I was on October 10, 2013.

Dinesh Karthik, although still active, had a tough time in the T20 World Cup, leading to his omission from the team. Given his age of 38, the odds of him returning to the national squad seem slim.

Wriddhiman Saha, an experienced wicketkeeper-batsman, has played 40 Tests and nine ODIs for India. However, he hasn’t played a game since December 2021. His absence during important tournaments suggests that his time representing India might be over.
