There is no reason for dispute regarding the name “Shiv Shakti” assigned to the Chandrayaan-3 lunar landing location, according to S Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He emphasised that the answer provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was aimed to represent the cooperation between men and women at ISRO. Somanath emphasised that the Prime Minister has the power to decide on such matters. After visiting a temple in Thiruvananthapuram, he said these things.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had said that the area of Chandrayaan 3’s lander Vikram’s successful landing would be renamed “Shiv Shakti,” whereas the site of Chandrayaan 2’s lander’s crash landing would be called “Tiranga.”
Somanath also highlighted that naming lunar sites to honor scientific achievements is a global tradition. He cited the example of the Sarabhai crater, named after Vikram Sarabhai.

During his visit to Kerala post the Chandrayaan-3 success, Somanath shared his interest in exploring both science and spirituality. He mentioned his scientific pursuits in outer space and spiritual exploration through temple visits and scriptural study.
Regarding upcoming ISRO missions, Somanath noted that the Aditya L-1 mission, focusing on studying the Sun, is set to launch in September. The Chandrayaan-3 mission progress is encouraging, with the rover ‘Pragyan’ conducting lunar surface experiments. The rover’s unique sleep mode activates during periods of low sunlight and reactivates after exposure, typically every 14 days.
Somanath expressed confidence in the rover’s abilities, despite the moon’s extreme temperatures. He mentioned that the collected experimental data would be shared with the scientific community soon.
